This section describes the content of the interface between manufacturing control functions and other enterprise functions. The considered interface is the interface between layers 3 and 4 of the layer model defined in this standard. Its purpose is to reduce the risks, costs and errors associated with implementing these interfaces. This section can be used to reduce the effort associated with implementing new product offerings. Its purpose is to make enterprise systems and control systems interoperable and easy to integrate. The scope of this standard is limited to: a) presenting the scope of the manufacturing operations and control domain; b) discussing the organization of the physical assets involved in the manufacturing enterprise; c) enumerating the functions relevant to the interface between the control function and the enterprise function; d) describing Information shared between control functions and enterprise functions.
