This standard provides standard procedures for testing the following properties of water-based drilling fluids: a) drilling fluid density; b) viscosity and shear force; c) fluid loss; d) water, oil and solid content; e) sand content ; f) methylene blue capacity; g) pH level; h) alkalinity and lime content; i) chloride ion content; j) total hardness calculated as calcium ion. Appendices A, B, C and E provide supplementary test procedures for: k) chemical analysis of calcium ions, magnesium ions, calcium sulfate, sulfides, carbonates, potassium ions; l) determination of static shear force; m) Determination of electrical resistivity; n) Drill pipe corrosion monitoring. Appendices D, F, G, H, I provide test procedures for: o) removal of air from drilling fluid; p) sampling, inspection and rejection; q) well site sampling; r) glass gauges, thermometers , Inspection and calibration of viscometer, still cup and drilling fluid density meter; s) Measure the static shear force of drilling fluid with rotational viscometer.
