This standard specifies the terms and definitions, product classification, requirements and calibration methods of hydrophones that use piezoelectric sensing elements to measure pulsed or continuous wave ultrasonic fields generated by medical ultrasound equipment in water in the frequency range of 0.5MHz to 10MHz. The hydrophone to which this standard applies is an underwater acoustic receiver with a known sensitivity and a high-bandwidth frequency response. It consists of a disc-shaped piezoelectric sensing element, acoustic structural parts, housing, cables and plugs. There are two main structural forms: needle-shaped and film-shaped.
