This standard specifies the technology for using IP backbone networks to provide virtual private network services to customers, that is, the virtual private network BGP/MPLS VPN technical requirements for Border Gateway Protocol/Multi-Protocol Label Switching. The content includes BGP/MPLS VPN network structure, multiple PE Forwarding table, VPN routing, VPN forwarding, hierarchical PE, operator-of-operator, cross-domain VPN, VPN access to the Internet, VPN management, security, service quality, and scalability. The VPN services discussed in this standard are only for IP services (the so-called three-layer VPN services), and do not include other services, such as FR, ATM, Ethernet, PPP, etc. Although customers can access the operator's network through any Layer 2 services, these Layer 2 services have been terminated at the edge of the operator's network. This standard applies to BGP/MPLS VPN equipment, including customer edge equipment, operator edge equipment, backbone network equipment, autonomous domain border routers and route reflector equipment of BGP/MPLS VPN networks.
