Scope: This standard specifies the content of inspection documents, which include both the cleanliness requirements for specified parts or components, and the inspection methods used to evaluate their cleanliness levels. Cleanliness requirements and inspection methods shall be jointly determined and approved by all relevant parties. This standard applies to wetted surfaces of any fluid powertrain part or component. Cosmetic defects and liquid or gaseous contamination are excluded from this standard. This standard does not address safety issues arising from hazardous materials, operations, equipment and their use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish sound safety and health practice and to determine its limited applicability prior to use.
