- This standard is suitable for continuous-tone grayscale or color digital still image data, and it has broad applicability to applications requiring the use of compressed images. It is not suitable for binary image data. This standard - specifies the conversion process from source image data to compressed image data; - specifies the conversion process from compressed image data to reconstructed image data; - gives the application of how to realize these processes in practice Guidelines; -- Specifies the coded representation of compressed image data. Note: This standard does not give a complete coded image representation, which will contain some parameters, such as aspect ratio and color space specification, which need to be determined according to different applications.
