This standard specifies the main metrological characteristics and evaluation procedures of load cells. The purpose is to provide a uniform method for determining the metrological characteristics of load cells used in mass measurement. This standard applies to load cells for static measurement of mass. The principle of this standard is that when the performance characteristics of the load cell are fitted to the allowable error band, the various errors of the load cell must be considered together. It must be recognized that a load cell may have small nonlinearity, hysteresis error, and moderate temperature error; or, on the contrary, moderate nonlinearity, hysteresis error, and small temperature error. Therefore, it is not considered appropriate to specify individual error limits for a given characteristic (non-linearity, hysteresis, etc.), but rather to use the allowable total error band of the load cell as the limiting factor. Using the concept of error bands allows one to balance the various components that make up the total error of the measurement and still achieve the desired end result.
