Scope
This section gives the optical fiber communication system (OFCS) safe operation, maintenance requirements and specific guidelines. In OFCS, optical power can be achieved at great distances beyond the limits of the transmitting device or from the source. This part specifies the assessment of the hazard level of optically accessible positions in OFCS, replacing the classification of laser products based on GB 7247.1. This section applies to a complete installation of end-to-end OFCS, including its parts and components capable of generating or amplifying optical radiation. Individual components and assemblies that are sold only to OEM suppliers for integration into a fully installed end-to-end OFCS do not have to be assessed in accordance with this part, as the final OFCS itself is subject to assessment in accordance with this part. This section does not apply to optical fiber systems that mainly transmit laser power, such as applications in material processing or medical fields. In addition to the hazards caused by laser radiation, OFCS may also cause other hazards, such as fire. This section does not involve safety matters such as explosion or fire of OFCS in explosive atmospheres. References to "laser" in this section include light emitting diodes (LEDs) and optical amplifiers. The purpose of this part is to: ——Protect personnel from optical radiation hazards caused by OFCS; ——Require manufacturers, installers, maintenance parties and operators to formulate work steps and provide relevant information in order to take correct actions Precautionary measures; - Ensure that adequate warnings are provided to personnel to prevent potential hazards of OFCS through the use of symbols, signs and instructions. See Appendix A for more detailed requirements. The security of OFCS depends on the characteristics of the devices that make up the system. It may therefore be necessary to label safety-related information on the product or include such information in the instructions for use. According to the requirements of the potential hazard level, the safety measures and operation responsibilities of OFCS shall be undertaken by the installer or the end user/operator or jointly undertaken by both parties. This section assigns the responsibility for complying with safety instructions during installation and inspection operations to the corresponding installer and inspection party, while the responsibility for operation and maintenance lies with the end user or operator. Users of this section may belong to one or more of the above manufacturers, installers, end users or operators.
