Scope

This part of GB/T228 specifies the principles, definitions, symbols and instructions of the tensile test method for metal materials at liquid ammonia temperature (boiling point is -269CC or 4.2K, designated as 4K), specimen and dimensional measurement, testing Equipment, test requirements, performance measurements and test reports. This section is applicable to the determination of the temperature tensile properties of metallic materials. It can also be used for low-temperature (temperature less than -196C or 77K) tensile tests that require special equipment, smaller test linings, and involve saw reshaping, adiabatic heating and strain rate effects. Note: *The boiling point of He isotope is 3.2°C. Generally, the liquid ammonia test is conducted in 4He or a mixture of He and +He containing high concentration of He, so the test temperature is designated as 4°C.
