Scope
Scope 1.1 Objective 1.1.1 This standard sets out the minimum requirements and recommendations intended to protect persons working in an environment involved in welding, cutting and related processes from illness and injury and to prevent damage to property during the installation, use and maintenance of devices used with these processes. 1.1.2 This standard determines the elements of a welding health and safety program (see clause 4) that are necessary to implement the requirements and recommendations specified in this standard. 1.2 Application 1.2.1 This standard applies to all personnel who work in an environment involved in welding, cutting and related processes 1.2.2 The requirements of this standard apply to the processes listed in the table of welding processes welding and related techniques (see Figures A.1 and A.2). Note: In addition to this standard, the competent authority should be consulted to ensure compliance with mandatory legislative requirements. 1.3 Exclusions This standard does not concern: a) the design or manufacture of welding and safety equipment; and b) the storage, use and handling of natural gas and propane in accordance with CSA B149.1 and CSA B149.2. 1.4 Terminology In CSA standards, the term “shall” indicates a requirement, that is, a prescription that the user must follow to ensure compliance with the standard; “should” indicates a recommendation or what is advisable but not obligatory to do; and “may” indicates a possibility or what is permitted to be done. The notes that accompany the articles do not include prescriptions or recommendations. They are used to separate from the text explanations or information that are not properly part of the standard. Notes at the bottom of figures and tables are part of these and can be written as prescriptions. The annexes are qualified as normative (mandatory) or informative (optional) to clarify their application. 1.5 Units of measurement The values indicated in SI units are the official values in this standard. Values in parentheses are given for information and comparison purposes only.
