This part of GB/T 3480 specifies the basic calculation formulas for the tooth surface load capacity of external and internal involute cylindrical gears, including calculation formulas for all influence coefficients in the evaluation of tooth surface contact fatigue strength. This section applies primarily to oil-lubricated transmissions; however, as long as there is always a sufficient amount of lubricant in the meshing process, it can also be used approximately (at low speeds) for grease-lubricated transmissions. The formula given in this part is applicable to the cylindrical gear tooth profile processed by the basic rack-type tool in GB/T1356, and can also be used for the end face coincidence degree εαn of the equivalent gear (calculation gear) less than 2.5 and conjugated with other basic racks tooth profile. The results calculated using the formulas in this part are very consistent with other methods (see references [5], [7], [10], [12]). In addition to the damage types described in Chapter 4, this section cannot be directly used to assess other tooth surface damage types, such as plastic yielding, scratching or gluing. The load carrying capacity determined by the allowable contact stress is called "flank load carrying capacity" or "flank contact strength". If this scope is not applicable, refer to Chapter 4 of ISO 6336 1:2019.
