- 1.2.1 This standard covers methods for controlling static electricity. The purpose is to eliminate or reduce static fire hazards. Except for the content mentioned in 1.2.2 and 1.2.3. 1.2.2 In hospital operating rooms or in areas where flammable anesthetics are administered. The prevention and control of static electricity is not covered by this standard but is covered by NFPA 99. 1.2.3 Lightning is not covered by this standard but is covered by NFPA 780.
