- Scope
- This International Standard describes procedures for establishing the point estimate and the confidence intervals of a median of a probability distribution of a population, based on a random sample of size n from the population. These pro- cedures give a method of distribution-free estimation and can be applied also to estimate quartiles and/or percentiles. NOTE — The median is the second quartile. Similar procedures can be used for other percentiles but these are nat described in this Interna- tional Standard.
