Scope
This International Standard specifies a method for determining the thickness of ceramic layers using a dome grinding process in which a spherical recess is ground and the dome is then examined microscopically. Due to the uncertainty that arises when measuring the dome dimensions, this test is not suitable for applications where the surface roughness of the layer and/or the base material exceeds 20% of the layer thickness. NOTE An alternative method for determining thickness using a contact profilometer is given in ISO 18452.
