This International Standard specifies the general principles required for leak testing using acoustic emission testing (AT). The standard deals with the application of the technology to structures and components in which a leakage flow occurs due to pressure differences and causes acoustic emission (AE). It describes the phenomena of AE formation and the influence of the type of fluid, the gap shape, the wave propagation and the environment. Various application methods, measuring devices and presentations of the AE results are discussed. In addition, the guidelines for the preparation of application documents that describe specific requirements for the application of the AE method are discussed. Various application examples are given. Unless otherwise specified in the referenced documents, the minimum requirements of this International Standard apply.
