This standard addresses corrosive and erosive environments, both onshore and offshore, to which industrial process measurement and control systems, or parts of such systems, may be exposed during operation, during installed but non-operating periods, and during storage or transportation. Maintenance and repair conditions are excluded from this standard. The environmental impacts considered in this part are limited to the performance of the process instrumentation control system or portions of such systems that can be directly affected. The effects on humans of specific environmental conditions are not within the scope of this standard. Appropriate values of the physical or chemical parameters listed herein, as well as a quantitative description of the environment, are to be used to define the local environment in which the equipment is expected to be operated, transported or stored. Only the above conditions are taken into account; The net effect of these conditions on the performance of the device is excluded. Because many of the environmental conditions listed in this standard are difficult to classify, the environmental characteristics are described qualitatively.
