This standard specifies two methods for the identification of rubber, including rubber and thermoplastic elastomers, in the raw state or in vulcanized or unvulcanized blends. This first method is based on infrared spectrophotometric examination using transmission techniques. The second method is to utilize reflectance analysis. A comparison of the spectra resulting from reflectance (attenuated total reflectance ATR) and transmission (film) is given in Annex A. Both methods provide the pyrolysis products (pyrolysis products). Examination of polymers using or using films cast or molded from solution. Representative spectra are shown in Annex B. The principle of this method is to collect samples, prepare them, and analyze them by infrared spectrophotometry. It must be performed by a qualified person, and the equipment used to generate the spectrum must be operated in optimal condition according to the manufacturer's instructions. Detailed test runs of infrared spectrophotometers are not included in this standard. This method specified applies only to qualitative analysis.
