- This standard specifies the requirements and test methods for orthodontic wires used in the manufacture of fixed and removable orthodontic appliances. This standard applies to preformed orthodontic archwires. This standard does not apply to springs and other preformed products. This standard specifies the detailed requirements for the physical and mechanical properties of orthodontic wires, as well as corresponding test methods, packaging and labeling information. This standard does not contain qualitative and quantitative requirements for possible biological hazards, but it is recommended that when evaluating possible biological hazards, refer to ISO 7405 and ISO 10993-1.
