This part of ISO 1938 specifies the main metrological and design characteristics for smooth limit gauges of linear size dimensions. This part of ISO 1938 defines the various types of smooth limit gauges used for the verification of dimensional specifications associated with linear size measures. This part of ISO 1938 also specifies the design and metrological characteristics for these limit gauges and the measurement error limits (MPLs) for new or worn gauges for these metrological characteristics. Furthermore, this part of ISO 1938 continues to describe the use of limit gauges and covers linear dimensions of up to 500 mm.
