This part of ISO 16859 specifies procedures for the direct and indirect verification of the test equipment used to determine Leeb hardness in accordance with ISO 16859-1 and also describes when these two types of verification are to be carried out. The direct verification involves checking that individual performance parameters of the devices are within specified limits, while the indirect verification uses hardness measurements on hardness reference plates calibrated according to ISO 16859-3 to test the overall functions of the device in the direction of the gravity field check. The indirect method can be used on its own for periodic functional tests in operation.
