This International Standard, together with ISO 10297:2014 and ISO 14246:2014, specifies the design, type examination, tests and investigations during manufacture and marking requirements for quick-open cylinder valves intended for refillable portable gas cylinders for non-toxic, non-oxidizing and non-toxic corrosive compressed or liquefied gases or extinguishing agents charged with compressed gases are intended for extinguishing, explosion protection and rescue applications. NOTE 1 The primary application of such quick-opening cylinder valves is in the firefighting industry. However, there are other applications as well, such as, but not limited to, avalanche airbags, life raft inflation, and similar applications. This International Standard covers the function of a quick-opening cylinder valve as a closure device. This International Standard does not apply to quick-open cylinder valves for cryogenic equipment, portable fire extinguishers or liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). NOTE 2 Quick-opening cylinder valves of refillable propellant cylinders used as a component of portable fire extinguishers are also covered by this standard, provided that these cylinders are transported separately.
