Scope
This standard specifies a method for the determination of some elements (shown in Table 1) in middle dis illate fuels using inductively coupled plasma atomic emis ion spectrometry (ICP-AES). This standard is applicable to the determination of samples with element content in the range of approximately 0.1 mg/kg to 2.0 mg/kg. Although samples outside this content range can be measured according to the test procedures of this standard, the precis on may not be applicable. The middle dis illate fuels referred to in this standard are all fractions with boiling points ranging from 150°C to 390°C. This range includes but is not limited to diesel and jet fuel. This standard is not used for the analysis of insoluble particles; however, very fine particles (less than 1 μm) will be brought into the plasma and quantitatively analyzed. If an element to be measured exis s in a volatile form in the sample, the results measured by this standard will be higher than the true value. For example, when measuring a sample containing hexamethyldis loxane, the measurement of silicon will be biased, causing the result to be on the high side.
