Scope: This standard specifies the method for determining the water repellency of fabrics using a series of water/alcohol solutions with different surface tensions. This standard is intended to provide guidance on water repellent properties. Standards can give a rough water repellent grade. Generally, the higher the water repellency level, the better the sample's resistance to water/alcohol solutions, especially to liquid water/alcohol-like substances. This standard is especially suitable for comparing the water-repellent effect of the same base fabric after finishing in different ways. This standard can also be used to determine the effect of water-washing and/or dry-cleaning treatments on the water-repellent properties of samples. Washing and/or dry cleaning procedures are recommended to adopt GB/T 8629 and/or GB/T 19981 (all parts). This standard is not suitable for evaluating the absolute adhesion resistance of samples to water/alcohol liquids. Other factors, such as the composition and viscosity of water/alcoholic liquids, fabric structure, fiber type, dyeing and other finishing agents also affect adhesion resistance. This standard is not suitable for evaluating the penetration performance of samples against water/alcohol chemicals.
