Scope
This standard specifies the minimum requirements for the qualification and certification of non-destructive testing personnel engaged in aerospace manufacturing, service, maintenance and refurbishment. The use of NDT accreditation boards is also specified, but not mandatory. This standard applies to persons who carry out testing and/or acceptance of materials, products, parts, components and subassemblies using non-destructive testing methods, and also to persons who are directly responsible for the technical adequacy of all non-destructive testing methods, including approval of non-destructive testing Process regulations and process cards, auditing non-destructive testing institutions or personnel providing technical support or training for non-destructive testing. This standard does not apply to personnel who only supervise and manage non-destructive testing personnel or engage in research and development of non-destructive testing technology, even if this technology needs to be approved by level 3 personnel in the subsequent implementation. Those who use direct-reading instruments for specific tests do not need to carry out qualification and certification according to the requirements of this standard after being approved by the level 3 personnel of the method. Commonly used non-destructive testing methods included in this standard are as follows: a) Liquid Penetrant (PT) b) Magnetic Particle (MT) c) Thermography (IRT) d) Shearography (ST) e) Eddy Current (ET) f) Ultrasonic (UT) g) Radiography (RT) When required by engineering or quality department, recognized engineering organization or main contractor, both parties can negotiate "other" parts A new method of non-destructive testing without impairment of the intended function, for the acceptance and determination of the suitability of the material, part, component, subassembly or assembly used. "Other" methods include, but are not limited to, acoustic emission testing, neutron photography testing, leak testing, and holographic testing. For personnel engaged in other methods, the requirements for training, practical experience and examinations shall be in accordance with 6.4, and the employer shall form a document according to such requirements.
