Scope
This standard provides guidance on investigation procedures for urban and industrial sites where soil contamination is known or suspected. It is also applicable to the situation where it is necessary to determine the pollution status of the site, or for other purposes, it is necessary to determine the environmental quality of the site. This standard provides guidance for gathering the necessary information for assessing risk and/or planning remediation (eg whether remediation is required and recommending the optimal remediation option). However, this standard provides guidance only on generally required information. It is emphasized that for specific repair methods, additional information may be required. This standard is also applicable to sites where no pollution is considered to exist, but the soil quality needs to be measured (for example, no pollution needs to be determined). Although the sites considered by this standard have been defined as urban and industrial sites, this standard is equally applicable to any other site where the degree and extent of pollution need to be determined.
