This International Standard specifies acceptance limits for indications of surface irregularities in metallic welds detected by penetrant testing. The acceptance limits are intended primarily for use during manufacturing, but may also be used during operational testing when appropriate. The acceptance limits in this document are based on the detectability that can be expected when using the techniques of the ISO 3452 series and the test parameters recommended in Annex A. The acceptance limits can refer to welding standards, application standards, specifications or codes. Such a relationship is shown for ISO 5817 and ISO 10042 in ISO 17635. Acceptance limits for aggregated displays are not covered by this International Standard.
