This International Standard specifies requirements for non-electrolytically applied zinc flake coatings for steel fasteners. The standard applies to the following coatings: with or without chromium(VI); with or without top layer; with or without lubricant (integrated and/or subsequently applied lubricant). National regulations restricting or banning certain chemical elements should be taken into account in the relevant countries or regions. The standard applies to screws and nuts with ISO metric threads, to fasteners with non-metric threads and to non-threaded fasteners such as washers, pins, clips, etc. NOTE Coatings according to this International Standard are used particularly on high-strength fasteners (1000 MPa) to ensure the... To avoid the risk of hydrogen embrittlement due to production (see 4.4). Instructions for the design and assembly of coated connecting elements are listed in Appendix A. This International Standard does not specify requirements for properties of fasteners such as weldability or paintability. It does not apply to mechanically applied zinc coatings.
