This part of ISO 5356 specifies requirements for connectors and gauges for male and female cones used for connectors on anesthesia and ventilators, e.g. B. in breathing systems, anesthesia gas delivery systems and vaporizers. Male and female cones are therefore not viewed as independent medical devices. This part of ISO 5356 specifies requirements for the following male and female cones: 8.5 mm and 11.5 mm for use in neonatal and pediatric breathing systems; 15mm and 22mm for general use in breathing systems; 22mm female snap cones (including performance requirements); 23 mm for use with vaporizers, but not for use in breathing systems; 30 mm for connecting a breathing system to an anesthesia gas delivery system. The medical devices and accessories for which these male and female cones are intended are not specified in this part of ISO 5356. Requirements for the use of male and female cones are not part of this part of ISO 5356; however, these requirements are contained in or incorporated into the relevant International Standards for certain medical devices and accessories. NOTE Requirements for weight-bearing tapered connectors with screw threads are specified in ISO 5356-2.
