Scope: This part of ISO 4064 applies to water meters for measuring the volume of cold drinking water and hot water flowing through a completely filled, closed pipe. These water meters must be equipped with devices that display the accumulated volume. This part of ISO 4064 specifies technical characteristics and pressure drop requirements for water meters for cold drinking water and hot water. It applies to water meters a) which have the highest permissible pressure (MAP) 1 MPa1) [0.6 MPa for meters for pipes with a nominal diameter (DN) of 500 mm], b) which have the highest permissible temperature (MAT) of 30 °C for water meters for cold drinking water, c) which can withstand the highest permissible temperature (MAT), depending on the respective class, of up to 180 °C for water meters for hot water. In addition to water meters based on mechanical operating principles, this part of ISO 4064 also applies to water meters based on electrical or electronic operating principles and to water meters based on mechanical operating principles with electronic devices that are used to measure the volume flow of hot water and cold drinking water. It also applies to additional electronic devices. Additional equipment is generally optional. However, some additional devices regarding the use of water meters may be mandatory in national or international regulations.
