- This standard specifies a gas chromatographic method for the determination of the content of certain abietic acids in gum rosin by separating volatile methyl esters of abietic acids with a capillary column. The main purpose is to identify the gum rosin of a specific species of pine, not for the quantitative analysis of gum rosin. If quantitative analysis is required, it should be determined according to the internal standard method specified in ASTM D5974.
