This standard specifies electrical relays with or without: Terms used and definitions (Chapter 2); Recommended values (Chapter 3); Maximum permissible temperatures (Chapter 4); Accuracy of definite time limits (Chapter 5) ; mechanical and electrical requirements to be met by relays (Chapter 6 to 9); applicable test methods (Chapter 10); data and marking (Chapter 11). This standard applies with or without electrical relays. This standard applies only to newly manufactured relays having contacts in the output circuit. If static devices (such as amplifiers, rectifiers, etc.) are mixed in the excitation circuit of such relays, special requirements should be added to this standard if necessary. Note: Requirements for relays with mixed static components are under consideration. This standard applies to relays used in many electrical technical fields covered by IEC. For special application areas (navigation, aviation, aerospace, explosive atmospheres, etc.), the scope of application of this standard can be extended by means of specific standards. This standard does not include requirements for relays for telephone and telegraph equipment. Standards applicable to this class of relays and their counterparts are under consideration. This standard does not apply to relays used in railway signaling and blocking systems. Note: Attention should be paid to the fact that some other IEC standards are involved in the use with relays or similar devices similar to relays. When the different requirements in this different but related fields of application have not yet been fully harmonized, it may be necessary to refer to other relevant IEC standards. This note applies in particular to standards for low-voltage switchgear and controlgear.
