This International Standard specifies requirements for the classification of covered stick electrodes based on the chemical composition of the pure weld metal, the coating type and other electrode properties, as well as the mechanical properties of the pure weld metal, as welded or after heat treatment, for manual arc welding of stainless and heat-resistant steels. This International Standard is a combined classification standard and uses a system based on nominal composition or a system based on alloy type for classification. a) Sections and tables entitled "Classification according to nominal composition" or "ISO 3581-A" are applicable only to those products classified according to this system. b) Sections and tables entitled "Classification by alloy type" or "ISO 3581-B" are applicable only to those products classified according to this system. c) Sections and tables that do not contain any of these designations are applicable to products of one or both systems.
