This International Standard specifies a general method for determining the open and closed cell volume fraction of rigid foams starting with the measurement of the geometric volume and then measuring the gas-tight volume of the test specimens. This procedure includes a correction for the apparent open cell volume by taking into account the cells on the surface that were opened by cutting during the preparation of the test specimens. Three alternative methods (method 1, method 2a and method 2b) and the corresponding test equipment are defined for measuring the gas-tight volume.
