This International Standard specifies a method for non-destructive thickness measurements of non-magnetic coatings on magnetic base metals. These are contact and non-destructive measurements on common coatings. The test head or a measuring device with an integrated probe is placed directly on the coating to be measured. The measuring device indicates the layer thickness. In this International Standard the term "coating" is used for materials such as: E.g. varnishes and paints, galvanic coatings, enamel, plastic layers, powder coatings, coatings. NOTE This method can also be used when measuring magnetizable coatings on non-magnetizable base metals or other materials (see ISO 2361).
