This International Standard describes a system that indicates the position of the implant body in the jaw and is intended for use with the scheme described in ISO 3950. It does not itself indicate whether the product is visible in the oral cavity or the presence of transmucosal components or implant restorations. Because the system describes positions but not restoration types, it is not necessary to use the quadrant designation numbers 5 through 8, which are used to indicate a primary tooth. This information should be recorded in the patient's medical record by the appropriate clinician and made available to the patient by the clinician(s) providing the treatment.
