Scope
This part of ISO 21013 provides separate calculation methods for determining the required mass flow to be dissipated for each of the following specified conditions: ——vacuum-insulated containers with an undamaged insulation system (outer jacket plus insulating material) under normal vacuum, outer jacket at ambient temperature, inner container at the temperature of the contents at specified blow-off pressure; ——vacuum-insulated containers with an undamaged insulation system (outer jacket plus insulating material) under normal vacuum, outer jacket at ambient temperature, inner container at the temperature of the contents at the specified blow-off pressure, pressure regulator of the pressure-building system works to its full extent; ——vacuum-insulated or non-vacuum-insulated containers with undamaged insulation system, but with vacuum loss in vacuum-insulated containers, outer jacket at ambient temperature, inner container at the temperature of the contents at the specified blow-off pressure or vacuum-insulated or non-vacuum-insulated containers with undamaged or partially damaged insulation system, but with loss of vacuum in vacuum-insulated containers as well as under the influence of fire, inner container with the temperature of the contents at the specified blow-off pressure; ——vacuum-insulated containers containing fluids with a saturation temperature below 75 K at 1 bar, with an undamaged insulation system, but with vacuum loss with air or nitrogen in the vacuum space; ——vacuum-insulated containers containing fluids with a saturation temperature below 75 K at 1 bar, with an undamaged insulation system, but vacuum loss with air or nitrogen in the vacuum space and under the influence of fire; ——Container with a completely defective insulation system and exposure to fire. Good engineering practice, based on sound knowledge of theoretical physics, must be applied to determine the mass flow to be dissipated when appropriate calculation methods are not available for an application condition. Appendix A provides recommendations for pressure relief devices for cryostats.
