This International Standard specifies the requirements for the calibration, verification and validation of equipment used to:
——monitor process variables during manufacturing, and;
——monitor the characteristics of equipment used in welding or related processes when the results obtained cannot be easily or economically documented through subsequent monitoring, inspection and testing. This includes the influencing variables of the processes that affect the usage properties and especially the safety of the manufactured product. NOTE 1 This International Standard is based on lists of process variables specified in the International Standards for Welding Instructions, particularly, but not exclusively, the ISO 15609 series. In later revisions of these standards, parameters to be specified may be added or deleted. Appendix B additionally provides some guidance on the requirements for calibration, verification and validation as part of the acceptance test for equipment used in welding or related processes. The requirements for calibration, verification and validation as part of the inspection, testing, non-destructive testing or measurement of the welded end products carried out to verify the conformity of the product are outside the scope of this International Standard. The content of this International Standard is limited to the calibration, verification and validation of devices after installation as part of the workshop design and ancillary activities for maintenance and/or operation. It must be emphasized that this International Standard does not concern the manufacture or installation of welding equipment. The requirements for new facilities may be specified in guidelines and product regulations (norms). Appendix C provides information about when other parties are involved in the calibration, verification and validation activities.
