Scope
This part of ISO 15366 describes methods for the chemical separation and purification of uranium and plutonium in solutions of irradiated light water reactor fuels and samples of high-level liquid waste from fuel reprocessing plants, before isotope analysis, e.g. B. is carried out by mass spectrometry (see ISO 8299) or alpha spectrometry methods (see ISO 11483). This part of ISO 15366 describes a method for the separation of uranium and plutonium in spent fuel samples based on a chromatographic method. The method is applicable to samples containing 1 µg to 150 µg Pu(IV) and -(VI) and 0.1 mg to 2 mg U(IV) and -(VI) in up to 2 ml nitric acid solution, 3 mol -l-1. It can be used for uranium-plutonium mixtures whose mixing ratio U:Pu can be from 0 to 200.
