Scope
This International Standard specifies requirements for the classification of wire-powder combinations and pure weld metal as welded and after post-heat treatment for submerged arc welding of unalloyed steels and fine grain steels with a minimum yield strength of up to 500 MPa or a minimum tensile strength of up to 570 MPa. A powder can be classified with different solid wire electrodes or cored wire electrodes. The wire electrode is also classified separately according to its chemical composition. This International Standard contains a common specification for classification either according to the yield strength and the average impact energy of 47 J of the pure weld metal or according to the tensile strength and the average impact energy of 27 J of the pure weld metal. a) Sections and tables marked with a suffix "A" can only be used for wire-powder combinations and wire electrodes classified according to the yield strength and the average impact energy of 47 J of the pure weld metal according to this International Standard. b) Sections and tables marked with a suffix "B" can only be used for wire-powder combinations and wire electrodes classified according to the tensile strength and the average impact energy of 27 J of the pure weld metal according to this International Standard. c) Clauses and tables that do not contain a suffix "A" or "B" are applicable to all wire-powder combinations and wire electrodes classified according to this International Standard. Powders suitable for single pass and pass/opposite welding are classified according to pass/opposite welding.
