This document specifies the performance requirements for cathodic corrosion protection of steel in cement-based concrete in both new and existing structures. It includes the air-exposed parts of buildings and civil structures, including non-prestressed and prestressed reinforcement embedded in concrete. It can be used on uncoated and organically coated reinforcing steel. This document is applicable to steel embedded in parts of buildings or structures exposed to air, buried, submerged, or influenced by tides. NOTE 1 Annex A provides an overview of the principles of cathodic corrosion protection and its application to steel in concrete. NOTE 2 This document, although not specifically intended for the cathodic protection of steel in any electrolyte other than concrete, may be used for the cathodic protection of steel in other cementitious materials such as: B. can be found in masonry used in steel frames, building stones and terracotta-clad buildings from the early 20th century. Such applications require additional considerations for these structures in terms of design, materials and installation of cathodic protection; However, the requirements of this document can be applied to these structures.
