Scope: This International Standard defines the basic terms, formula symbols and units of measurement for the field of laser technology in order to standardize language use and to achieve clear definitions and reproducible tests of laser parameters and laser-related product properties. NOTE The hierarchical terminology for lasers given in this International Standard is different from the hierarchical terminology in IEC 60825-1. ISO and IEC have discussed this difference and agreed that it reflects the two different objectives for which the two standards were developed. Further details are set out in the informative Appendix A.
