Scope
This standard specifies the guidelines for the evaluation of the human body's response to structural horizontal motion within the range of 0.063 to 1 Hz. This standard applies to the horizontal movement of structures felt by the occupants of fixed buildings and offshore structures when they are in any posture such as sitting, standing or lying down. This horizontal movement is low-frequency horizontal vibration caused by infrequent external environmental forces or frequent forces such as elevators, fans, air conditioners, heating equipment and piping systems. The above two horizontal movements should be respectively consider. The sensory threshold and satisfaction value of the low-frequency horizontal motion of the structure are given respectively. This standard does not apply to structural vibrations caused by blasting, earthquakes and similar events, nor does it apply to vibrations of offshore floating structures, tension leg and hinged platforms. In Appendix A (supplement), guidance is given on the satisfactory magnitude of vibrations for specific applications. Note: ① The visual perception of building movement, the impact of structural torsional vibration and the effect of noise can all affect the subjective response to structural vibration, but no quantitative assessment has been made. ② Offshore fixed structure refers to a structure built on the seabed, such as a gravity platform or a steel platform with pile foundations. ③Response of people in the building refers to normal adult residents. Acceptable magnitudes of vibration vary with age and sex, but there are currently no exact correction factors for these effects to correct for acceleration magnitudes. For fixed structures at sea, the measurements recommended in this standard are for trained personnel only.
