- This standard specifies the graphic symbols and their conventions used in configuration diagrams of computer systems including automatic data processing systems. The graphical symbols contained in this standard are used to represent the main hardware components of computer system configurations. This standard does not deal with: • detailed representations of hardware, such as logic diagrams or circuit diagrams; • schematic representations of systems using images or drawings; • any abbreviations or mnemonics used to identify specific equipment. Configuration diagrams are used to represent the physical structure of a computer system, such as hardware devices and connecting cables. The configuration diagram can represent: ·The maximum configuration including all hardware components; ·The actual configuration formed due to the rearrangement of hardware components and the temporary use of equipment; ·The minimum configuration required to solve a given problem; ·The configuration replacement of the same equipment, etc. . Configuration diagrams can be used in the following areas: Business brochures of computer manufacturers; Selection and evaluation of computer configurations; Technical terms of computer purchase or lease contracts; Representation of computer centers; Describing data processing in magazine articles Application; ·Data processing application manual; ·Teaching. The configuration diagram consists of the following parts: a. Hardware symbols: according to the basic functions of physical devices, a hardware symbol represents a physical device; b. Connection: represents local or remote (transmission line) physical connections; c. Special agreement : For easy reading and drawing configuration diagrams.
