- This standard specifies the type, basic parameters, technical requirements and inspection rules of the orange smoke signal used for pull-type lifebuoys. This standard applies to the orange smoke signal used by the ship to indicate the position of the lifebuoy at sea to the ship's overboard personnel and rescuers during the day. It satisfies the provisions of the 1983 Amendment to the 1974 International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea adopted by the International Maritime Organization.
