This standard specifies the hardness measurement method to determine the effect of rubber hardening with time due to crystallization. This standard applies to materials with an initial hardness of 10 to 85 IRHD at the test temperature. It can be used for the determination of raw rubber, mixed rubber and vulcanized rubber. It is mainly suitable for rubbers that have a clear tendency to crystallize at low temperatures, such as neoprene and natural rubber. This standard does not apply to rapidly crystallizing materials that achieve a relatively high degree of crystallinity within 15 minutes of conditioning at the test temperature.
