Scope
This standard specifies the classification and definition of low-voltage electrical and electronic equipment connected to external power sources in accordance with the protection against electric shock once the basic insulation fails. This standard applies to electrical and electronic equipment whose rated voltage does not exceed 660V AC RMS. The relevant professional standards may also be used for higher voltage equipment, or for other purposes, when required. This standard applies to electrical and electronic equipment used in homes, offices, factories, schools, farms and similar places, as well as for medical purposes. This standard does not apply to open-type equipment, ie does not apply to equipment which does not inherently prevent access to its live parts.
