Scope: This part of ISO 4628 specifies a system for assessing the extent of filiform corrosion originating from a scratch. The length of the longest thread L and the most common quantity of threads M are measured. The image examples in Appendix A of this part of ISO 4628 illustrate different classifications for the length of the longest thread L and the most common quantity of filiform threads M. A comparison of the sample plates with the 12 images in Appendix A do not replace the binding numerical evaluation (method 1 or 2). ISO 4628-1 specifies a system for evaluating the amount and magnitude of coating damage and the intensity of changes in the appearance of coatings and contains the general principles of the evaluation system. This system is particularly intended for damage caused by aging and weathering and for uniform changes such as color changes, for example yellowing.
