Scope
This part of GB/T 29023 describes the ultrasonic attenuation spectroscopy method for measuring the particle size distribution of discrete phases in liquids under low concentration conditions. In this case, the ultrasonic attenuation spectrum is a linear function of the particle volume concentration. interactions can be ignored. The scope of this part includes colloids, low-concentration dispersion systems and emulsions. The typical particle size range of ultrasonically characterized particles ranges from 10 nm to 3 mm. Particles with particle sizes outside this range have also been successfully measured. For solid particle suspension systems, the typical volume concentration of measured particles is usually in the range of 0.1% to 5%, which depends on the density ratio of particles and dispersion medium [9,10], particle size and frequency range. Such ultrasonic methods can be used to monitor dynamic changes in particle size in real time. For emulsions, higher concentrations can be measured. Although both ultrasonic attenuation spectroscopy and phase velocity spectroscopy can be used to analyze particle size distributions, only ultrasonic attenuation is recommended. Since the relative change in phase velocity due to particle size change is small compared to the average velocity, it is difficult to accurately measure the phase velocity, especially at room temperature. Likewise, it is not recommended to combine attenuation and velocity spectra to measure particle size. Measurement errors in the magnitude and phase spectra add to the ill-conditioned nature of the problem and reduce inversion stability.
