This standard specifies the terms and definitions, technical conditions, test methods, inspection rules, marking, packaging, transportation and storage of synchronous belts, pulleys and tensioners used in timing belt drive systems. This standard applies to timing belt transmission systems used with internal combustion engines such as road vehicles, tractors, agricultural and forestry machinery, engineering machinery, ships, generator sets, drainage and irrigation machinery, etc., to drive internal combustion engine camshafts, fuel injection pumps, balance shafts and other components. Timing belts, pulleys and tensioners used in timing belt transmission systems in other industries can also be used with appropriate modifications to this standard as long as the manufacturer and the customer agree.
