Scope
This standard specifies the piezoelectric ultrasonic inspection principle, inspection method, comparison sample, flaw detection equipment, inspection conditions, inspection procedures, result evaluation, and inspection report of seamless steel pipes with a wall thickness to outer diameter ratio greater than 0.2 and less than 0.3. This standard applies to ultrasonic testing of longitudinal and transverse defects of thick-walled seamless steel pipes for various purposes with an outer diameter not less than 6 mm. The flaw detection methods described in this standard are mainly used for the detection of metal discontinuity defects in steel pipes, and are not suitable for the detection of layered defects. The inspection of steel pipes with wall thickness to outer diameter ratio greater than or equal to 0.3 shall be carried out according to the method negotiated between the supplier and the purchaser.
